Dr. Fabian Friederich

Title: Terahertz Inspection Systems: From Stationary to Mobile Devices

Biography: Fabian Friederich received the Diploma degree in optoelectronics from the Aalen University of Applied Sciences, Aalen, Germany, in 2007, and the Ph.D. degree in physics from the Goethe University Frankfurt am Main, Frankfurt, Germany, for his work on electro-optic terahertz imaging in the Ultrafast Spectroscopy and Terahertz Physics Group in 2012. During his studies, he was also associated with the Centre for Micro-Photonics, Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne, VIC, Australia, and with the Laser Zentrum Hannover, Hannover, Germany. In 2011, he joined the Institute of Technical Physics, German Aerospace Center (DLR), Stuttgart, Germany to work on the development of monitoring systems for space debris. Since 2013, he has been Group Manager with the Fraunhofer Institute for Physical Measurement Techniques (IPM), Kaiserslautern, Germany, after he was granted a Fraunhofer Attract Funding of the Fraunhofer Association to form a new research group in the field of electronic terahertz techniques (from the begin of 2017 the respective working department has moved to the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Mathematics ITWM in Kaiserslautern, Germany). He is member of the guideline commitee VDI/VDE 5590 "Terahertz Systems" of the Association of German Engineers (VDI) and member of the technical committee "Microwave and Terahertz Techniques" (MTHz) of the German Society for Non-Destructive Testing (DGZFP).
